EAT & RUN in ATLanta'S WESTEND WITH STIC of dead prez

Outdoor fitness and plantbased cuisine is really thriving in Atlanta right now. Today’s run I’m jogging along the tree-lined sidewalks of Ralph Abernathy road through Atlanta’s “Wakanda” of healthy, plant based living - the Historic West End.

As featured on our curated playlist, Beyonce’s anthem Black Parade is knocking in my earbuds, as I’m putting in some light roadwork, careful not to crush the black parade of ants that are building what looks like a miniature version of the ancient kingdom of Mali on the sidewalk. A fitting sighting, as I step into Atlanta’s modern day Black wellness Mecca. “Grandmama” Opal Lee, the founder of Juneteenth, would be proud.

The West End is home to a vibrant “Pan Afrikan” hub of black owned shops and restaurants that take pride in culture, community and health conscious lifestyles.

Allow me to put on for my city and share some of the highlights.

World Taste Atlanta

Ever try the African grain “fufu”? Not like this i bet!

Try World Taste’s original fufu tacos. It’s fluffy and crispy and drizzled with a tangy, spicy, slightly sweet sauce.

Healthful Essence

When I’m missing Brooklyn, one of my favorite west end eateries is Healthful Essence. They have a boutique style buffet of Afro Caribbean fused plantbased cuisine.

Treat yourself to their soft and crispy chickpea fritter and dip it into their home styled, hearty Tumeric soup. And why not wash it down with their special Moringa infused peanut punch, sweetened with dates. I mean why not?

Soul Vegetarian

Have you ever had “gleeda” ? It’s the Hebrew word for Soul Vegetarian’s signature creamy, vegan ice cream served in a cup or cone. One of the very first vegan restaurants in Atlanta, this precious landmark offers a plant-based cafeteria styled buffet, that feels like grandma's love on a plate.  Visit

Tasili's Raw Food Reality
